Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer

Jerry Rivers joined Everen Specialty Ltd. as Senior Vice-President & Chief Operating Officer in November of 2005. Jerry is responsible for the management of Everen Specialty Ltd; leading the strategic planning process, setting policies and procedures, interacting with rating agencies, acquiring reinsurance, oversight of the underwriting department, etc. In addition to the actuarial, financial and claims staff, Jerry is supported by a team of dedicated underwriters and business analysts who assist with day-to-day underwriting, shareholder and broker relationships, marketing, implementing strategic initiatives, and special projects. Prior to joining Everen Specialty Ltd. Jerry held the position of Executive Vice President and Director of Sales & Marketing for a Bermuda based wholesale insurance and reinsurance broker with offices in New York, London, Chicago and Hamilton, Bermuda. Jerry's insurance career, which began in 1982, is quite diverse including liability claims adjustor in Washington, D.C. for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Senior Underwriter, Recruiting Coordinator, Production Underwriter and Agency Marketing Representative for Aetna Casualty & Surety Company, and a retail insurance broker with Fred. S. James (acquired by Sedgwick which was later acquired by Marsh) specializing in association endorsed program business as well as alternative risk transfer arrangements such as captives and rent-a-captives. Additionally, for twelve years, Jerry held senior sales and management positions with Bermuda-based Mutual Risk Management's (MRM) United States sales subsidiary, Commonwealth Risk Services, Inc. Jerry holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Scranton. Jerry serves as Director of SCARS (Saving Children and Revealing Secrets); a Bermuda based charity with a mission to prevent child sexual abuse.

Marlene Cechini

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Marlene Cechini joined the Everen Group in September 2004 as Controller and was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in July 2022. Marlene is responsible for the organization and management of all accounting and auditing functions for the Group and provides oversight and support for financial analysis and treasury operations. Marlene joined the Group from KPMG – Bermuda where she held the position of Audit Manager – Insurance from July 2002. Prior to relocating to Bermuda Marlene worked with KPMG, LLP in the Chicago insurance practice from August, 1997 to June 2002. Marlene is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds a B.S. in Business Administration. In 1998 she attained her CPA designation.

Matthew E. Pifer

Senior Vice President & General Counsel

Matthew Pifer joined Everen Group on December 1, 2016 as General Counsel succeeding Theodore Henke who retired at year-end. Matt joins the Group from Paul Frank + Collins P.C. a law firm based in Burlington, Vermont where he served as Practice Leader – Insurance Services for the last twenty years. During the last ten years he and his firm have provided external monitoring counsel services to the group on a number of complex claims. Matt is also experienced with coverage advice, litigation management and insurance and financial regulatory work. Matt has worked with markets and regulators in London, Bermuda and other jurisdictions globally. Matt attained his Juris Doctor, cum laude at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA and holds a Bachelors of Arts, English Literature, from Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT. He is admitted to Practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, Federal and State Courts of Vermont and Massachusetts, the Federal District Court for Northern New York. He is a member of the Vermont and Massachusetts Bar Associations.
